Its an honor to speak with you. Since high school, when I heard Walking in Space for the first time, I`ve been in love with your music, and arrangements. Valerie Simpson, in my humble opinion, never sounded so good, since Gula Matari. And that is the subject of my e-mail. where can I find this clssic album. It seems to be out of print. I hope not. Where Quibcy, can I purchase this wonderful piece of music? Thank you, Greg Thorne

    Quincy Hello!

My name is Roberta, I am brazilian, live in Brazil in Sao Paulo. First let me say that much admire your work. You’re very talented and creative. I have some of their CDs, I do not have all that here in Brazil is a little difficult to find them. But I bought some outside Brazil. I remember when you were in Brazil to pass the carnival in Bahia. I’m sure that must have loved my country. Also, remember his interview with presenter Brazilian Amaury Jr. for his program. I watched the interview and loved. Still in its plans to make the documentary on the brazilian carnival? It will be an honor to the whole world know the biggest party carnival on the planet!

    Hugs and see you soon,

I just saw Quincy Jones sharing his experiences with Seattle on CNN.

Can you forward this link to Quincy Jones, there are many photographs of Seattle in the early seventies that he might enjoy.

    Hello,
I am hoping that Quincy Jones reads this post and would be willing to share a minute of his time to reply.

I am the grandson of a musician/conductor/composer Milt Raskin. I know you collaborated on some music. He often wrote lyrics for songs of others. Milt passed in 1977 (11 years before I was born). I am trying to learn more about him through research and contacts. I just have a few questions I would like to ask about your relationship with him and about what he was like.

    Thank you,

    Dear Q:
I have been a fan of your music forever–I am a high school band director in Fort Worth Texas. I have recently seen your production of “Say it Loud, a celebration of black music in America” I would love to be able to use the production to teach my children about their heritage but I am having a difficult time obtaining a copy of the production. Do you have any insight for me on obtaining a copy of this production? Any help you provide will be greatly appreciated.

Thank You for your time and consideration.

Hi Mr.Quincy Jones, your website is great! I have always been a huge fan of yours. I was wondering if I could make a request, and ask your advice on something. My name is Jonathan Young, and I have a genuine passion for music. I am in my second year of college majoring in music, and I am on a quest to create a new and unique sound. I have made several of my own works already, but I have no idea on how to get my career off the ground, in this very competitive business. I really would appreciate this oppurtunity to get in touch with you so you could assist me on getting my work discovered, and explain the ends and outs of how to be successful in this business. I do understand that time is precious, and resources are limited to what you can commit to, so any advice or guidance of any kind would be greatly appreciated. I truly believe I have a gift, and I want to share it with others. Thanks again for your time Mr. Quincy Jones, and God Bless.

    Hello Sir,

My name is Troy Horne. I was almost introduced to you by Leila Steinberg of AIM. I was a member of the group when it first started. I had my song “Champion” placed on the Tupac Documentary that your son Quincy produced. Since then I have been blessed to star on Broadway and Television.

I left that career to create a positive outlet for kids and adults who wanted to reach those goals and didn’t know how to do it. In short sir, It sounds like we are on the same mission. I would love to speak to you further about how I can help. Thanks for your time.

Of course you’re busy, but you are also wise!

It’s the latter that intrigues us, hence this invitation to celebrate your wisdom with the rest of the world. The two straight-forward questions we seek your response to are:

    1. What is the most cherished wisdom you received as a child?
    2. What is the most valuable wisdom you can pass along to a child or young person?

The deadline for submission is February 1, 2009. Thus far, Greg Mortensen (Three Cups of Tea), Tom Hanks, Judith Viorst, William Joyce, several Newberry Book Awardees, and almost 80 wisdom leaders have answered these simple, yet profound, questions.

You will become part of Wise at Heart (further information available upon request). You might wish to check out the award-winning parent organization, Milestones Project (www.milestonesproject.com).

As a Share Inspire Award winner, you are to be celebrated for your generosity of spirit. Now, we want to honor the depth of your character.

I hope that as a discussion ensues on the idea of a secretary of culture that not only the well-known voices are brought into the discussion like your own, but those of artists like myself and the many others out there toiling in all fields (mine is classic theatre by women) who are struggling to make good art, serve our communities, and encapsulate the world we live in through our artistic visions.

We must put the arts first as they are our ambassadors to the rest of the world. We must give support (financial and otherwise) and focus to all the arts and cultural activities that bring value to our culture and will be our legacy as a nation in the future.

I hope the discussion is not dismissed as a trifle, because as in Susan Glaspell’s play of the same name, what is seen by some as a trifle may be the clue to unravelling the mysteries that face us all.

The Cultural agenda you are about to undertake requires a powerful foundation.
Many of the blocks in that foundation are already available but are not in place. There are elements that can be added to update the vision as well. The arts is a wide freeway with many ramps to be navigated safely to help us all enjoy the creative journey we are all entitled to.
There are some critical strategies needed for the task at hand. I would love to make a ’strategic’ contribution anyway I can.
Have you started to put your force together as yet? That’s what it will take.
    Blessings to all.

… I wanted to reach out to Quincy Jones in reference to a challenge he proposed at SXSW to anyone with ideas pertaining to the music business. I have one for him. My concept is based on reaching out to younger and all-ages audiences to introduce new and older artists and at street level at venues other than bars. Bars are where most kids have to go to see bands – to see new music play live. there are no teen clubs any more – at least not in Dallas. By the time kids are old enough to frequent bars, they are almost beyond the ideal age to introduce new music to. Loyalties are stronger with younger audiences and can grow as both the audience and the artists evolve – like with the Beatles.
Truth is, music that sells alcohol doesn’t necessarily sell records. But in most cities, bars that have bands is the live scene for street-level artists. But really, bars are in the business of selling alcohol, it’s really the bottom-line – the receipts at the end of the night – that determine who is booked into the club. catch my drift?
Give me a shout. I have some ideas.

I am really noone but a fan and hoping you can help…the media is having a field day with Cris Brown and I feel that only someone like you can possibly help him…even if its just to deal with his situation. He needs a strong male figure with musical genious and I know noone more qualified than you…I hate to see he swallowed by his situation…this industry is so unforgiving. I know I have no right to ask…im not even a Chris Brown fan…I more into jazz and neo soul music…and of course a HUGE Quincy Jones Fan…but I look at him faltering…and wonder…how much damage can society do and when is there enough blood given for forgiveness to start…and I pray that there are “big Brother” and Father figures in the industry to help before the headlines are much more devastating…

    Peace forward~

    Hello Mr. Jones,
My name is Lauren and I am a high school sophomore at Chippewa Valley High School in Michigan. In my current english class I am doing a term project on artists that shaped the current music world as we know it. I am honored to be researching and reporting on Ray Charles Robinson, a man I understand you have been associated with. We are required to conduct a personal email interview with a source that is close to our research subject, and I think that you would be an excellent person to speak with. I would love to ask you a few questions about your relationship with Ray and the influence you have personally experienced being around him. If you could email me back at ltwilliams1224@aol.com, that would be greatly appreciated.

However, that is not the reason for which I am looking to email you today. It is currently 2.51am here in Yorkshire, in the United Kingdom, and I have been watching and listening to news over the past 4 hours now. Of all the kind sentiments I heard, yours were the most heartfelt. Thank you for your kind words regarding the Legend: Michael Jackson.

Re: Michael Jackson Passing and semblance to that of Elvis Priestly

I would like to open this message by stating that this is the very first time I had occasion to visit your website. I was prompted to do so due to the tragic news I received while on my way to a job interview here in London, England about the sudden passing of a legend within his own right- Michael Jackson.

There is indeed a deep sense of sadness at the lost and the untimely death of such a talented singer, and it does more so make the case for call for a thorough and complete probe in terms of an (independent) toxicological investigqation as to exactly what bought about the sudden death of such a talented and well known pop icon such as Michael.

His untimely death is a sharp drawback to that of Elvis Priestly in 1974, and this this is why an independent autopsy is required in order to pin point exactly what caused the sudden death of our dear friend, Michael.

Dear Mr.Jones, I’m writing you this letter with hopes of it finding you in good health and spirits. Unknown to many; I am a platwright who is at the dawn of his writing career, and have little to no knowledge of staging, directing or producing a major work. Nevertheless, I do acknowledge God as the source of my creativity and thank Him for blessing me with the words to the musical Remnants of Our Past. Since the completion of this play I have sought the help of sponsors, charaties, grants and etc. I have gone in circles with theatre houses and lending institutions for the production of this play. The lack of adequate funding and not having the wherewithall could cause this work to suffer. Mr.Jones it is my desire to see REMNANTS in ful production; having all the attention it so desperately deserves. REMNANTS requires the expertise of a brilliant and talented man as yourself. I believe that this is a work we as a people can be proud to call our own. REMNANTS has all the excitement and tapestry of Les Miserable and Evita. Mr.Jone, I ask you to please read my play; with hopes of finding it worthy enough to bring to life as a musical entitled Remnants of Our Past. Thank you for your time. Contact info: Bruce Thornton

    Mr. Jones,

I noticed you mentioned on one of the interviews concerning Mr. Jackson and his personal life “when God leaves the room”

… I recall a very sage piece I read from you in George Martin’s book Making Music.

Something I use with every band I produce; to paraphrase your words:

“No matter how much you do your homework, leave enough room to let the Lord walk through..”

Not a very religious person, but dang been there, felt that. Funny, most artists don’t even realize it when it happens.

From the interview I’ve heard on NBC, you mentioning that they were taking second’s out on stretchers with you, Rod, Bruce and Michael doing five days straight, I’m sure the Lord must have been “moonwalking” through the room.

I also recall an interview i read with Bruce stating that one MJ song (not sure which) had literally 500 mixes, all labeled.

You ended up releasing mix number 2.

Magic, for sure. You’ve been blessed with working with some of the greatest, but they too have been blessed working with you.

If i’d ever get a chance to work along side you, I hope you’d not tire of me addressing you as “Mr. Jones”.

    Mr. Jones,

I would like to start of by expressing my deepest thoughts of condolence for the loss of the greatest musician I’ve ever had the pleasure to experience. Michael Jackson has filled my life with joyous entertainment, and I have always been a fan of his, admiring his hard work and philanthropy.

The work that he did with you and Mr. Richie on We Are The World, was beyond words. I thank all of you for that.

Because of the tragic loss of Michael, I have been thinking of him, and without ever knowing him personally, wondering what would please him as a tribute to his life. I thought that a sequel, or follow-up, to We Are The World might be something that would put a smile on his face as he looks down upon us.

As a fan, I think it would be a gift that we could all share, and would possibly continue to unite Americans in the effort to end hunger and suffering among our children.

Please consider this effort both as a philanthropic cause, and a way to celebrate the life and gift of Michael Jackson. On a local level, if something like this were started, my family, friends and I would be a voice in our communities to assist with anything we can.

Thank you for your consideration. Again, allow me to offer sincere condolences.

    Dear Father of Michael Jackson,
    I am very devastated by Michael’s news…
My first LP album I ever got was Michael’s Thriller. He and you are the one who opened my door to music.

I was so looking forward for his concert in London.
There will never be a chance to experience his magic…
    Maybe not…
TRIBUTE PROPOSAL: Instead of cancelling all the scheduled concerts and returning the ticket money why not gather Michael’s special musician friend and sing his song in front of his true fans to tribute? This will be a memorable historical nights for all his family, friends and fans.

I really miss him and i believe i speak for all his fans.

I didnt know who to share this idea and thought only person who can make this happen is you.

    With great respect,

    Kant/London

    Dear Mr. Jones,

There was a time in the 80s when there was an electricity the air -
when it was more than just about the music and the show. Band Aid, USA
for Africa, Live Aid and Hands Across America were pinnacle moments in
the lives of so many. Those moments not only captured your attention
and your soul, but it became an indelible a part of you. And “We Are
The World” was more than just an uplifting song and a uniting of
artists. In it’s lyrics was a simple, yet profound message…that when
the power we each have within us come together, we can change the
world and, in doing so, make it a better place for all of us. Michael
Jackson was a huge part of that and that’s what I will remember him
for. He encouraged our world to be more selfless and aware and helped us to
realize how fulfilling that could be. I have not experienced anything
like it since. Who can imagine a better time than now, to make that
magic happen once again. There’s no better way to memorialize Michael
Jackson’s positive impact on this world.

I would like to think it’s what Michael would have wanted.

    Sincerely,

    T. Bedard

    Mr. Jones:

Woud you be so kind to consider a remake of “We are the world” — or perhaps a different song entirely, with diffrent singers — as a tribute to Micheal? It’d be great to see people who love and respect Michael — like Justin Timberlake and Will.I.Am and so many others — participate…

    Thank you for considering it!

    Mr. Jones,

16 years ago, my parents were about to have a baby. They saw one of your t-shirts, “Listen Up” with a Q in the background. They sent you a letter and you very kindly sent them a box. I still wear the two tees left all the time, but they’re getting worn out. I was wondering if you had any more.

    Thank you very much,
    Quinn Walker

First of all….my condolences to the family of Michael Jackson.
I still cannot believe it that Michael Jackson is dead. He would be still alive if they had stopped the medical treatment. (It was an unnatural dead)

Michael was a good and legendary person who created songs with meaning. …I’m very very very sad.
Michael Jackson lives on and on…forever and ever in eternity

    Dear Mr. Jones,

I met you at CBS studios back when you were working on the music for “The Color Purple” with Harvey Mason and Bill Summers. I’m now part of the working press and would like to verify some comments which are posted on the internet regarding Michael Jackson. You were quoted by Jeff Gordinier as having stated your disbelief in claims that MJ made regarding the change in his skin color. For the record I’d like to know if you were misquoted? Recently, I was able to unearth an interview with Michael’s makeup artist regarding this very same issue and she verifies Michael’s claims.

Hi there Mr. Jones. I didn’t know where to start, so i thought i’d start at the top..
My name is Stephen Loveday, I am from New Zealand, and as many people are, I am a huge fan of Michael Jackson. I am a 26 year old singer/songwriter/pianist/producer. What I have is a song i wrote 2 years ago, inspired by MJ, along the vein of heal the world/we are the world, called Brother’s & Sisters. It had been my dream to somehow get it to Michael as i knew he would have loved it, and the message it brought. This unfortunately never came to fruition in time.. What I honestly believe it is however, is a great song, especially in light of his passing, to pay tribute to so a man that was so many peoples hero, and to help continue his message of peace, at a time that would be most fitting. I could go on now about the song, but what I am really hoping for is a chance for you to listen to it please and give me your thoughts. I can assure you I am not some “dreamer” fan with a silly idea. I have talent, and I also have a great song that i am sure given the chance to hear you will agree and see the potential it has in light of this situation. Is there some way I can send you a demo recording of it please, I could send an mp3 through email:)

    Kind regards

    Stephen

Is therea book or website where I can get some of this information? This would be amazing for me.

    Sir. Sir,

The works have been paralyzed by lack of construction materials. We want to give opportunities to young people and teenagers at social risk in our region, regardless of sex, color, race, religion, or people with special needs. We also need donations of recursion in instruments, guitars, flutes, guitars ect
Our goal implement social projects in the community to reduce the high rates of violence involving young people and teenagers, build a Community Center with five classrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen with dining hall, where courses will be offered for digital inclusion, maintenance and assembly of computers , Literacy for young people and adults, crafts, cutting and sewing, skills and vocational courses in the area of construction (bricklayer, carpenter, hydraulic fireman, electrician, master-of-works, owner) to improve the quality of life and reduce the social inequalities and out of poverty.
Our body has a purpose, sustain families, teenagers and young children, providing assistance in combating hunger, infant malnutrition, combating school dropout, denouncing the exploitation of labor and labor-child. Raising food, basic baskets, school supplies, wheelchairs, diapers, blankets, milk powder and long life, medicine, shoes, clothes, these donations are passed to needy families.
We want to change the reality of our region, which suffers from high rates: prejudice, illiteracy, child prostitution, social inequality, because of Leprosy, the intense traffic of drugs and violence.
The construction of the space community, is an innovative social investment and greater importance, cause a social impact, because our region there is a project for this purpose, which is eligible young people and teenagers.

The families most of them: They are poor, living asking alms from door to door, trying to survive and kill the hunger of their children.

In the region: We have no industries, people living without jobs, culture, leisure, education, which is why we believe that the construction of the space community, which will be transformed into a school workshop will be the exit to educate young people and youth of the community.

Our social work: Its plea for solidarity and love of neighbor, we do not have the financial resources, the costs to maintain the activities of the organization, are contributions of directors, members and volunteers.

Reduce poverty, save lives of children and families victims of discrimination, living the margins of society, without hope of change of life, allowing the community to develop through its own merits, just give conditions and opportunities.

    Mr Jones

Hello I recently wrote a song for Michael Jackson after he passed and I feel like the work you did with the “We are the world project” would greatly enhanced this song…Your work with Mr Jackson was the best that I have heard and I can’t think of anyone who can bring the magic to this song that you can.

I sent a couple of messages to your publishing company about the song. Sir I know you don’t know me but I am a huge fan and I really think this song will say what we as fans have been wanting to say since Mr. Jackson passed..will you help me get this message out?

    I wait for your response….

    Dear Mr. Jones,

I have written a song with a melody, which is a tribute to the late, great Michael Jackson. My representative and I would be honored to discuss this song and music with you and your firm.

It would be special if the song could be recorded very soon (by Janet Jackson, Usher, or other artist), possibly in time for the Grammy Awards Show.

I welcome your inquiries via the email address provided.

    Sincerely,

I’ve been a fan of Q since just before “I Heard That” was published.
I even bought the “I Heard That”, which sadly was a joke as it didn’t contain Quincy arrangements, just the orignal scores. :( I’m still working on “Summer in the City” and perhaps before I die I’ll have it completely worked out.

I really don’t expect an answer from Quincy Jones or any one in his organization but I feel as though I should try everything. I know Quincy supports music in the schools and so do I. We encouraged our son Jordan in his music studies at the Baltimore School for the Arts and The University of Maryland. He now has his BM degree. He is an accomplished singer but more than that he has written many songs that people other than myself feel are very good. My question is now what? How do I help him now? Music is alot of being in the right place at the right time. Where is the right place and what is the right time? We are not asking for handouts just tell me what he should do next. Where does he go or is all the education and potential wasted. Is there a logical next step that he should pursue. He is planning to move to New York in February to look for work and see if there is a way to sell his music or get into perfroming, any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you for allowing me to vent, and if you have any suggestions please send them to Jordan at

Thank you Debra Mills ( ok here comes the proud mother’s plug he has many covers on you tube under whoisjmills)

KEEP MICHAEL JACKSON’S VOICE ON THE RE-RECORDING OF “WE ARE THE WORLD”. This version will be hollow without him. I like Janet but she shouldn’t be singing his part. No one compares to Michael. He was perfection. Besides, he’s not here to participate in this production SO KEEP HIS VOICE IN THE RECORDING IN HONOR OF HIM AND AS HIS CONTRIBUTION TO “THIS PRODUCTION”. He created the entire melody and wrote most of the song. It is only fitting that HE remain on the recording.

Hi Quincy, i’m finishing a producer career here in Chile, and i would like to ask you, if you have the time and the will to answer to me, three questions about music production, for my final exam.

    1. How do you make a musical difference between all the artists you have produced, for them to have their own brand?

    2. Do you follow the actual leading references in music development, or you just propose new things among your criteria?

    3. What is your personal feeling about the present and future of the music industry?

If you want to answer those questions in just one text i would be glad anyway.

    That’s all Quincy.

i hope no bothering you with this post.

Thanks a lot, here in Chile we admire you like the greatest music producer ever.

    Good bye, and good health.

Quincy, PLEASE reconsider removing Michael’s voice from We Are the World. It doesn’t matter who you get to sing Michael’s part, it will not be the same. I heard that his children will contribute a spoken poem which is also beautiful (Michael would love that). But since Michael is no longer here to help produce the project, it FEELS LIKE YOU ARE ERASING HIS LEGACY. PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS. Michael means so much to so many people who are still grieving beyond words.

In honor of the King of Pop, Michael’s voice should be left on the new recording of WE ARE THE WORLD for Haiti. MJ deserves this and more. It is the least you could do. His untimely death has left all of his fans in grief and his fans would really appreciate it. MJ!

Quincy and Lionel, it feels like you are stealing Michael’s legacy by not telling the world how MICHAEL created this song and that Lionel’s contribution was minor and added after Michael created the entire song. Lionel, BE HUMBLE like Michael was and share the truth with the world. People will love you for it.
Raising money for Haiti is great (I’ve donated money weeks ago and will continue to donate). I only ask that in doing this, you do it with RESPECT for Michael. PLEASE LEAVE MICHAEL’S ORIGINAL VOCALS ON THE RE-RECORDING.
**The original song should be on the album for all of us who prefer the original.**
Also, as others have stated, I think re-releasing Michael’s “WHAT MORE CAN I GIVE”, would be most appropriate and would raise a lot of money for Haiti.
SONY, TALK TO THE JACKSON ESTATE ABOUT RE-RELEASING MICHAEL’S
“WHAT MORE CAN I GIVE” WITH THE PROCEEDS GOING TO HAITI. PLEASE DO THIS. IT WOULD RAISE A LOT OF MONEY FOR THE PEOPLE OF HAITI.

As we all know, Michael wrote this song almost by himself. Lionel added like three or four lyrics to the song and that was about it. This is Michael’s creation and they all know this. I will NOT purchase this new version if Michael’s voice is not on it. I loved the orginal version very much and it is one of the best songs of all time because Michael was in it. Just re-release the original version and it would generate more money.

“Original collaborators, Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie decided to ask a new generation of artists to rerecord the song to benefit those in Haiti.
    I don’t like the idea .
    Why borrow/re-record?
So many of them, in the “new” generation, give credit to Michael’s influence in their lives & careers; well . . . show us what you’ve learned: Why not just write a song for Haiti?

The Singers Today, They’re Ok. They’re Not Legends.
All I’m Saying Is, It’s Not Going TO Be A Hit Like How It Was In 1985.
Michael Is A Legend. They Should Put Michael On It Because He Made “We Are The World” Happen.

    Hello Mr. Jones,

For my senior project at University of Washington, my partner Atousa and I are having an event at the Quincy Jones Performing Arts Center at Garfield High School. I am a former student and wanted to do my senior project at Garfield to give back to the school that has challenged me and influenced me in so many positive ways. Growing up in South Seattle there were a lot of issues I saw in the community that were present but not talked about. Throughout high school and college I have been active in working to reverse some of the problems Seattle faces.

This event is to highlight the performing art talents of Garfield students and other local artists in raising awareness over issues and concerns students see and experience going to the school and living/being in the community. All proceeds of this event are going to be split among CORE (a group working to bridge racial, economic, gender, and sexuality gaps – started specifically in response to the Rodney King riots) and another local organization (yet to be decided by students).

The event is attempting to give a younger demographic a voice and the opportunity to express themselves through performing arts in an attempt to confront issues that are typically swept under the rug.

We would like to extend an invitation to you for April 30th of this year to attend and perhaps speak or participate in the event. You are an inspiration and hero to me, to Garfield, the CD and Seattle in general and it would be an incredible honor to have you at the event. It will the first time there will be this type of community event held in the auditorium and what an exceptional way to start it off with the man himself, Quincy Jones. In addition, we are fundraising right now to rent out the space as it is way out of our price range as students. If there are any extra funds from your philanthropy we could use ANY help we can get. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.

    Take care,
    Molly McManus

    Dear Mr. Jones,
As a teacher, I am always looking for interesting ways to teach about social issues, consciousness and the cause and effect each and everyone has upon others. I was doing research on your movie The Wiz and was disappointed to find very little resources or positive comments and uses for this movie. I would like to propose/encourage you to gather the smartest people you have to develop a guide for the use of The Wiz in the classroom. Black history month, social issues, empowerment, literature connections, geography, cultural identity and pride, social/life skills are some of the few topics your movie can help teach about. I will start to develop my own in the meanwhile. Many continued blessings to you and all of talented people you work with.

    Dear Mr. Jones,
How can I purchase a copy of your 1963 arrangement of Can’t Stop Loving You? Thank you for any information you can give me.
    Sincerely,
    Shannon Gunn
