Q honored by AARP, on Bloomberg’s ‘Muse’

Quincy was one of the 10 individuals honored at the fifth annual Inspire Awards, presented by AARP The Magazine, Monday (December 8 ) night in Washington, D.C.

The honor, in the words of AARP, was bestowed on “10 extraordinary people age 50 and over who have made the world a better place through their innovative thinking, passion, and perseverance.”

Q was singled out as a “Global Poverty Fighter.” Others honored included Glenn Close (Mental Health Advocate), Richard M. Cohen (Voice for the Chronically Ill), Martin Eakes (Lending to the Poor), Katherine Freund (Transportation Activist), Peter Gallagher (Alzheimer’s Advocate), David E. Hayes-Bautista, Ph.D. (Latino-Health Researcher), Susan Love, M.D. (Cancer Crusader), Rose Nakamura (Compassionate Caregiver), and Alma Powell (Children’s Advocate).

AARP The Magazine posted video highlights of the event, featuring Quincy dropping some sage advice. “The way to have a healthy, happy, fulfilling life is to love, live, laugh and give,” he says. “It’s true.” In the video clip, viewable here, you can also catch a glimpse of Q receiving his award.

Quincy also continues to promote his new coffee table book, The Complete Quincy Jones: My Journey & Passions with TV and radio appearances and book signings. He recently appeared on Bloomberg TV’s Muse. In the interview with Patrick Cole, Quincy discussed growing up in Seattle, writing for Count Basie and scoring films, his role in launching the careers of Oprah Winfrey and Will Smith, his personal struggles, and his philanthropic efforts, including the recent awarding of the Q Prize (made possible by Audemars Piguet and The Harvard School of Public Health) to El Sistema mainstays Dr. José Antonio Abreu and Gustavo Dudamel.
