Q’s commentary on radio’s demise
In a recent article from noted journalist Ben Fong-Torres, titled: The pink slips just keep on coming, Quincy laments the demise of radio and its outdated operational model. For many years, the radio industry has been dictated by its programmers and director-submitted playlists; which has in-turn neglected the listeners. Quincy is noted below:
Q and me: Quincy Jones, the famed musician and producer, is disenchanted with radio. “They’ve got this puppet, midget-minded programming,” he said during his recent City Arts & Lectures appearance at Herbst Theatre. “It’s really terrible. They think they’re going to outguess you about what’s trendy.” Technology such as Napster, he said, gives listeners access to a wider range of music than radio. I conducted the onstage interview with Jones, including snippets of music he’s produced during the past half century. KQED (88.5 FM) is one of 170 NPR stations airing the session, at 1 p.m. next Sunday.
The quotations are taken from the discussion with Ben- Fong-Torres’s interview with Quincy at the Herbst Theatre in San Francisco. Quincy and Ben share more in common than just a love of music. They have both been portrayed in film. Fong-Torres had his likeness portrayed during his career at Rolling Stone magazine from 1969 through 1981, in the 2000 film Almost Famous, writer-director Cameron Crowe’s semi-autobiographical account of his rise as a young rock journalist. Quincy was portrayed by actor Larenz Tate in 2004’s Ray, the biopic of Q’s longtime friend and musical collaborator Ray Charles.
At the Herbst, Fong-Torres played specific songs during his conversation with Q, allowing Quincy the opportunity to comment on the tracks, and the audience to gain a better perspective about the music that was being discussed. You can watch a portion of Q’s conversation with Fong-Torres in the video clip below, courtesy of FORA.tv.
“great” endorsement for an “Ambassador for the Arts” at the GRAMMYS…coupled with the fact that the President is a past GRAMMY winner: sounds like a “yes we can” to me,

Dear Mr. “Q”
With radio stations and alternative radio programming available with sirius radio as a modern day alternative listening method. We will become an information aged society. People will become informed, educated and enlightened by what they see and hear on radio and television. The Bible says that knowledge will increase in the last days. We are living in an information age, whereby, we are on the cusp of change. Because knowledge will be escential to things today. We will need to have it more readilly, more accurately and more accessibly. Sirius Radio will be taken seriously as more people tune into it. We will become a society where facts are separated from fiction, and reality based programs will be based on real life stories or situations that have taken place in the past. The truth has to be revealed and integrity has to be maintaned in order for us to survive.

Dear Mr. “Q”
There is an old ancient chinese proverb that says: “The teacher will appear when the student is ready.” Will you be my teacher whenever you are ready? It was once told to me that “A winner never quits and a quiter never wins.” This I hold to be true.

Dear Mr. “Q”
It was told to me and a group of other students that there is going to be two types of people in the world today “THE HAVE’s” and “THE HAVE NOT’s.” I’m pre-determined to be one of THE HAVE’s because I HAVE NOT had so many things in so long that it would be foolish as to expect the latter half.
Sincerely Yours,

Dear Quincy & Others,
We’ve seen the switch over to HDTV from analog to digital tv and with the newness in radio down stream wide width band. Serius Radio could be next in offering to its listeners simular options with broader range. We are seeing a digital revolution right before our eyes and it is taking place even more frequently by the moments. Computers, Phones, Cell Phone options, the Internet and instant access to data is going to be essential to this new trend in technological advancement. Those who “HAVE” will have the “KNOWLEDGE” and tools and those who “HAVE NOT” will not have the where with all knowledge of how to bring it about. Knowledge will be the “KEY” which will unlock many doors and the “SALVATION” of lost souls will be what keeps them.
Sincerely Yours,
