“Thriller” still thrilling the world

Quincy often marvels at the impact of Thriller — Michael Jackson’s landmark album produced by Quincy — even 25 years after its release.

Proof of the album’s continuing popularity and impact comes in the form of Thrill the World, a volunteer organization that exists to stage simultaneous dances of the song “Thriller” around the globe.

This weekend, “Thriller” fans will meet to stage another simultaneous dance at official events in 96 cities in 12 different countries around the world, including in Hollywood, Calif. at the Hollywood and Highland Shopping Center at 11 a.m. on Saturday (Oct. 25).

Thrill the World, the brainchild of dancer Ines Markeljevic, began in 2006 in Toronto where 62 people danced to “Thriller” and in the process set a Guinness World Record for the largest “Thriller” dance.

By 2007, the group had launched its own website to help spread the word. As a result, Thrill the World was able to attract 1,722 people in 52 cities on five continents to dance to “Thriller” simultaneously on October 27 and 28, 2007.

This year, Thrill the World expects even bigger numbers. For more information, visit the Thrill the World website.

This as in incredible event to be part of because it is a sincere, living, and moving testimony to the energy that Michael Jackson emanates. Through his talent he brings people together from all over the world, whoever they, wherever they, and whatever time it may just be. Who else can get people up at 5am to dance to their routine, just for the sheer love of it? That’s a special kind of love from the people and there is only one person that generates that. Michael Jackson. That is why he truly is the King of Pop. Thriller is the greatest selling album of all time and this has inspired people all over the world to get up and show that the Thriller routine is also the greatest dance on earth!

I was a part of Thrill the World 2008 along with my 2 daughters. It was so exciting for them to be a part of all the camaraderie of dance and music fans. They LOVE Michael’s music and I play it for them all time since there’s not so much for them to listen to these days. (Note to the music industry: This generation of mothers is not going to be force fed “gansta rap.” Thanks to the Internet, I can introduce my children to real music.

God Bless Michael for everything he has done for the world. My mother once told me that one person could never change the world, but she now knows that through his hard work and years of incredible music, Michael Jackson did indeed change us all… from the young to the old.

Thank you Michael. I will always love and respect you.

I am just so grateful to know that the love and gratitude I have for Michael Jackson and for the gifts he’s brought to my life through his love and gentle human nature are shared by so many. It’s just overwhelmingly obvious that I am not alone in my admiration and gratitude, thankfully. His physical passing brought a strong ‘knowing’into my heart that we indeed never really die–It felt and feels to me that Michael’s spirit just exploded into the world with his passing, and I just now know that he is here with us more than ever. He is everywhere. I am so grateful and amazed. He’s “just another part of me”.
    Thank you so much!
