Quincy set for California Hall of Fame
What do Quincy, actors Jack Nicholson and Jane Fonda, and exercise expert Jack LaLanne have in common?
The quartet is among the honorees set for induction to the California Hall of Fame at the California Museum in Sacramento on December 15.
Other inductees include fellow jazz musician Dave Brubeck, sculptor Robert Graham and chef Alice Waters. Posthumous inductees include author Theodor “Dr. Seuss” Geisel, photographer Dorothea Lange, architect Julia Morgan, scientist Linus Pauling and former Governor Leland Stanford.
The California Hall of Fame is the brainchild of Maria Shriver, the wife of California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Shriver conceived the honor to celebrate individuals who have influenced the state, the nation and the world.
Each inductee has contributed artifacts from their career to be displayed at the 2008 California Hall of Fame exhibition, which opens to the public on December 16.
Quincy’s contributions include a platinum Thriller album, his Garfield High School letter jacket, the sheet music for “We Are the World” signed by all of the participating artists (pictured above), the We Are the World, Back on the Block, Sinatra at the Sands, and Thriller albums, as well as the soundtracks for The Color Purple and Roots, and the original artwork for the Mellow Madness album. There will also be a listening station at the museum where visitors can listen to Quincy’s classic hits.
